Summary: This study built an electro-chemo-mechanical model and implemented it in a phase-field modeling to investigate the correlation between the physical properties of artificial solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) and lithium deposition. The results demonstrate that improving the ionic conductivity of the SEI can mitigate stress concentration and nonuniform deposition of lithium. Furthermore, the mechanical strength of the SEI also has an influence on the deposition and electrochemical kinetics of lithium.

Summary: Polymer composite electrolytes have garnered attention for their safety and flexibility, but the compatibility issues at the organic/inorganic interface can lead to agglomeration of ceramic particles and hinder Li+ transport. In this study, a silane coupling agent was introduced to build a bridge model at the interface, resulting in improved dispersion, enhanced Li+ conductivity, and broader electrochemical window. The in-situ built bridge model was also applied to various cathodes, leading to uniform morphology and enhanced Li+ diffusion coefficient. These findings offer a universal strategy to address interphase issues and have implications for other composite systems.

Summary: The integration of bismuthene into PEO electrolyte enhances ionic conductivity by weakening the bond strength of O (-EO) and Li+, and disrupting the crystallization of PEO polymer chain. The in-situ formed LixBi-rich layer stabilizes the Li/PEO interface and modulates the interfacial Li+ cycling process, thus preventing the formation of lithium dendrites. The composite electrolyte enables stable cycling of Li symmetric battery for over 1000 hours, exhibiting outstanding long-life cycling and rate performance.

Summary: In this study, an easy-to-construct polymer/inorganic composite solid-state electrolyte (CSSE) was developed by integrating LLZO ceramics into PEO to inhibit the growth of Li dendrites and widen the electrochemical stability window. The designed PLL-CSSE showed outstanding cycling performance and high Coulombic efficiency in LiFePO4-Li cell, with a capacity retention of 82.4% after 200 cycles when combined with NCM622 cathode. The uniform dispersion of LLZO in PEO matrix was responsible for the improved electrochemical performance, indicating a promising pathway for the development of high energy density all-solid-state lithium batteries.

The efficient transport pathway for lithium ions provided by the interconnected SNts in the composite led to a significant improvement in ionic conductivity compared to traditional electrolytes. The fabricated cell based on SNts showed good cyclability and rate capability, demonstrating the potential of SNts based CPEs for solid-state electrolytes and lithium metal batteries in the future.
