Charge-Transfer and Spin-Flip States: Thriving as Complements

Winald R. Kitzmann et al.

Summary: Transition metal complexes with photoactive charge-transfer excited states, such as [Ru(bpy)(3)](2+) and [Cr(ddpd)(2)](3+), have been widely studied. The properties of emissive charge-transfer and spin-flip states, including their energy and lifetimes, as well as their responses to external stimuli, are discussed in this Review. The strengths and weaknesses of these states in applications like photocatalysis and circularly polarized luminescence are also identified.

Chiral Conjugated Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescent Polymers for Highly Efficient Circularly Polarized Polymer Light-Emitting Diodes

Jin-Ming Teng et al.

Summary: Two novel chiral conjugated polymers R-P and S-P with excellent TADF properties and high photoluminescence quantum yields were designed and synthesized in this study. Intense mirror-image circularly polarized luminescence signals were detected from both polymers in solution and film states, and high maximum external quantum efficiencies and brightness were achieved in solution-processed CP-PLEDs. Additionally, intense circularly polarized electroluminescence signals were observed from the CP-PLED devices fabricated with R-P and S-P.

Self-Assembled Helical Structures of Pyrene-Conjugated Amino Acids for Near-Infrared Chiroptical Materials and Chiral Photothermal Agents

Zhuoer Wang et al.

Summary: The researchers successfully realized chiroptical properties in the near-infrared (NIR) region using a charge-transfer strategy and applied it to photothermal agents. They self-assembled pyrene-conjugated amino acid derivatives into helical structures with supramolecular tilt chirality. By manipulating the amino acid domains, they achieved chiroptical activity evolution in the NIR region and controlled the photothermal performance using circularly polarized NIR light.
