Robust ultrathin nanoporous MOF membrane with intra-crystalline defects for fast water transport

Xueling Wang et al.

Summary: The study introduces an intra-crystalline defect engineering strategy to design a high-performance stable metal-organic framework membrane for effective treatment of hypersaline waters, achieving both excellent salt rejection and high water flux. Molecular dynamics simulations reveal the positive role of defects in enhancing structural hydrophilicity and enabling ultra-fast water transport, paving the way for the rational design of next-generation MOF membranes with enhanced permeation performance.

Carbon nanotube supported oriented metal organic framework membrane for effective ethylene/ethane separation

Ruicong Wei et al.

Summary: In this study, we demonstrate that ZIF-8 is capable of effectively separating ethylene from ethane through its 4-M window. We successfully fabricated a {100}-oriented ZIF-8 membrane (100-M) using a carbon nanotube-induced membrane approach. The obtained 100-M exhibited higher ethylene/ethane selectivity compared to randomly oriented membranes and showed excellent mechanical stability.

High-Performance, Free-Standing Symmetric Hybrid Membranes for Osmotic Separation

Zhi Geng et al.

Summary: This study successfully fabricated free-standing symmetric hybrid forward osmosis (FO) membranes without internal concentration polarization by covalently linking metal-organic framework (MOF) nanofillers with a polymer matrix. The optimized hybrid membrane displayed outstanding water/Na2SO4 selectivity and excellent mechanical robustness, making it suitable for long-term FO separation of high-salinity solutions.
