Polypyrrole film synthesis via solution plasma polymerization of liquid pyrrole

Hyo Jun Jang et al.

Summary: This study presents a polymerization method for forming polypyrrole films from liquid pyrrole using a solution plasma process. By adjusting the operating voltage waveform and using negatively or positively biased bipolar square-wave pulses, solution plasma was generated and the pH value of the pyrrole solution was increased. Polypyrrole films were successfully deposited onto a metallic substrate under specific operation conditions.

Wireless Humidity Sensor for Smart Packaging via One-step Laser-Induced Patterning and Nanoparticle Formation on Metallized Paper

Sarath Gopalakrishnan et al.

Summary: In this study, a scalable and rapid process is developed to create a low-cost humidity sensor for wireless monitoring of moisture levels in packaged goods. The sensor utilizes laser ablation to pattern a moisture-sensitive interdigitated capacitor on commercially available metallized parchment paper. This laser-induced patterning technique also creates high surface area Al2O3 nanoparticles within the sensor, resulting in a higher humidity sensitivity compared to conventional photolithography-based processes. The sensor demonstrates a linear frequency change within the range of 0-85% RH, showing good repeatability and stable performance. The use of scalable laser fabrication processes and inexpensive materials makes this technology suitable for roll-to-roll manufacturing of low-cost wireless sensors for smart packaging applications.

Low-Cost Nonreversible Electronic-Free Wireless pH Sensor for Spoilage Detection in Packaged Meat Products

Jose Waimin et al.

Summary: Contamination of meat with pathogenic microorganisms can lead to severe illnesses and food waste, causing negative impacts on health and the economy. Wireless pH monitoring is crucial for detecting spoilage on a large commercial scale. To address this need, we have developed a cost-effective sensor that uses pH-responsive polymer to remotely assess the risk of microbial spoilage throughout the supply chain.

Investigation on mechanical and conductive properties of polypyrrole/UV cured acrylate nanocomposite coatings

Subramanyam Kasisomayajula et al.

Summary: Conductive polypyrrole/UV cured acrylate nanocomposite coatings were prepared using simultaneous photopolymerization, with mechanical and conductive properties correlated to structural and compositional changes. SEM showed closer deposition of polypyrrole/Ag composite particles to the substrate, while AFM revealed conductivity only in coatings with formulations containing 45% or more pyrrole and AgNO3 mixture at the top.
