Exfoliated Fe3GeTe2 and Ni3GeTe2 materials as water splitting electrocatalysts

Filipa M. Oliveira et al.

Summary: It has been found that two-dimensional layered metallic materials Fe3GeTe2 and Ni3GeTe2 have stable water- and air-stability. Fe3GeTe2 has shown excellent oxygen evolution reaction (OER) activity, while the electrochemical catalytic performance of Ni3GeTe2 has not been reported. Single-layered FGT was obtained through exfoliation, showing superior catalytic activity in alkaline media. FGT achieved the best performance in OER, consistent with theoretical predictions.

Strain-Modulated Magnetism in MoS2

Hongtao Ren et al.

Summary: This article summarizes the recent progress of strain-dependent magnetism in MoS2. It reviews the theoretical studies and compares the experimental methods of applying strain and their effects on magnetism. The role of web buckles in inducing biaxial tensile strain is emphasized. Despite some progress, the study of strain-dependent MoS2 magnetism is still in its infancy, and potential directions for future research are discussed.

Controlling interlayer magnetic coupling in the two-dimensional magnet Fe3GeTe2

In Kee Park et al.

Summary: In this study, we demonstrated enhanced interlayer ferromagnetic coupling in Fe3GeTe2 by manipulating the stacking symmetry and reducing the layer number. Electronic structure analysis revealed the mechanisms behind the enhancement and also showed how the coupling could be weakened by substrates due to screened Coulomb interactions.

Monolayer Fe3GeX2 (X = S, Se, and Te) as Highly Efficient Electrocatalysts for Lithium-Sulfur Batteries

Xiaohan Song et al.

Summary: The magnetic Fe3GeX2 monolayers exhibit metallic electronic structures, moderate binding strength with soluble lithium polysulfides, and bifunctional electrocatalytic activity towards the S reduction reaction and the Li2S decomposition reaction, potentially improving the electric conductivity of sulfur species, suppressing the shuttle effect, and enhancing the conversion efficiency of the battery.
