Construction of 2D Zn-MOF/BiVO4 S-scheme heterojunction for efficient photocatalytic CO2 conversion under visible light irradiation

Zhenlong Zhao et al.

Summary: This study presents the fabrication of an S-scheme heterojunction of 2D/2D zinc porphyrin-based metal-organic frameworks/BiVO4 nanosheets (Zn-MOF/BVON) for efficient photocatalytic CO2 conversion. The optimal catalyst exhibits a 22-fold enhancement in photoactivity compared to previous BiVO4 nanoflake, and even shows a 2-time improvement over the traditional g-C3N4/BiVO4 heterojunction. The superior photoactivities are attributed to strengthened S-scheme charge transfer and separation, promoted CO2 activation by well-dispersed metal nodes in Zn-MOF, and extended visible light response range.

Interface Modulation of FePc/Porous Ti(HPO4)2 Z-Scheme Heterojunctions with Ultrafine Ag for Efficiently Photocatalytic CO Oxidation

Xinjia Zhang et al.

Summary: An integrative Z-scheme heterojunction of ultrafine Ag-modulated FePc/porous Ti(HPO4)(2) nanosheet (FePc/Ag/TiP NS) with extended spectrum response is designed for efficient CO oxidation. The enhanced photoactivity is attributed to accelerated Z-scheme charge transfer and the presence of well-defined Fe2+ ion and extended visible light response. The interfacial modulation of ultrafine Ag embedded in TiP NS enables the directional migration of electrons and the controllable assembly of FePc, resulting in strengthened charge transfer. The activated O-2 by Fe-N-4 sites in FePc reacts with CO adsorbed on TiP NS to produce CO2.

Summary: The configuration regulation of single-atom photocatalysts plays a crucial role in the interfacial charge transfer and catalytic process for CO2 reduction. This study successfully anchored single Ni atoms onto g-C3N4 nanosheets, providing a highly efficient photocatalyst for aqueous CO2 reduction. Various experimental techniques revealed that the six-oxygen-coordinated single Ni (II) sites can efficiently capture photoelectrons and activate water molecules to induce a hydrogen-assisted CO2 reduction.

g-C3N4-Based 2D/2D Composite Heterojunction Photocatalyst

Bicheng Zhu et al.

Summary: Using semiconductor photocatalysis to convert solar energy into chemical energy is a viable strategy for addressing the energy and environmental crisis. Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) is a popular 2D photocatalyst with visible light response, low cost, and high stability, but single g-C3N4 photocatalyst has poor performance due to fast recombination of photogenerated electrons and holes. Hybridizing g-C3N4 with other 2D materials to construct 2D/2D heterojunction photocatalysts improves this limitation by offering large contact area and plentiful channels for the migration and separation of photogenerated charge carriers, inheriting the strengths of 2D structure such as high specific surface area and abundant active sites.

Summary: Novel ultrathin copper phthalocyanine (CuPc)/alpha-Fe2O3 heterojunctions were controllably synthesized for efficient wide visible-light-driven CO2 reduction. The optimized CuPc/Fe2O3 heterojunction exhibited significantly higher photoactivity compared to Fe2O3 nanoparticles, mainly due to enhanced S-scheme charge transfer and separation, extended visible-light absorption from molecularly disperse CuPc, and favorable catalytic function of Cu2+ ions. This study provides insights for designing novel metal phthalocyanine-involved S-scheme heterojunction photocatalysts.
