Synthesis of amorphous Pd-based nanocatalysts for efficient alcoholysis of styrene oxide and electrochemical hydrogen evolution

Yiyao Ge et al.

Summary: Amorphous nanomaterials with long-range disordered structures have unique properties and promising applications in catalysis. This study demonstrates a facile wet-chemical reduction strategy for synthesizing various amorphous multimetallic Pd-based nanomaterials, such as PdRu, PdRh, and PdRuRh, and explores their phase-dependent catalytic performances in different applications. The synthesized amorphous PdRh nanocatalyst exhibits superior performance in the hydrogen evolution reaction compared to its crystalline counterpart and other reported Pd-based electrocatalysts for HER.

Adsorbate-Induced Phase Transformation of Ambient Stable Noncubic Lattices in Au Microcrystallites

Chaitali Sow et al.

Summary: Metals exhibit crystal structure-dependent properties in bulk, micro-, or nanostructures. This study explores the stability of Au microcrystallites in unconventional lattices under common chemical adsorbates, revealing selective enhancement of diffraction intensity and lattice transformation. The facet preference of adsorbates affects the crystallinity and morphology of the crystallites.

In-situ growth of heterophase Ni nanocrystals on graphene for enhanced catalytic reduction of 4-nitrophenol

Jiahao Zhuang et al.

Summary: The in situ synthesis of heterophase Ni nanocrystals on graphene, with a heterostructure of face-centered cubic (fcc) and hexagonal close-packed (hcp) phase, showed greatly improved catalytic activity and reusability in 4-nitrophenol reduction. The apparent rate constant and activity parameter were higher than reported non-noble metal and most noble metal catalysts, demonstrating the potential of creating heterophase metal nanocrystals with enhanced catalytic reactivity.

Alkyl selenol reactivity with common solvents and ligands: influences on phase control in nanocrystal synthesis

Eric A. Ho et al.

Summary: This study investigates the mechanistic understanding of phase control in the syntheses of copper selenide nanocrystals by studying the impact of different solvents and ligands on the chemistry of the dodecylselenol reactant. The results show that unsaturations were prone to selenol additions, carboxylates underwent selenoesterification, amines caused the release of H2Se gas, and the phosphine formed phosphine selenide. Different ligand and solvent environments led to the formation of different phases of nanocrystalline copper selenides.

General Synthesis of Amorphous PdM (M = Cu, Fe, Co, Ni) Alloy Nanowires for Boosting HCOOH Dehydrogenation

Weicong Wang et al.

Summary: The study presents a novel strategy for preparing noble metal-based nanomaterials with amorphous structures at low temperatures. The amorphous PdCu nanowires prepared using this method exhibit high activity as electrocatalysts for formic acid oxidation, surpassing crystalline-dominant counterparts. The outstanding catalytic performance of the amorphous PdCu nanowires is attributed to the high surface reactivity induced by amorphization, leading to efficient activation of C-H bonds and significant facilitation of HCOOH dissociation.
