Ultrafast relaxation of lattice distortion in two-dimensional perovskites

Hao Zhang et al.

Summary: This article provides a direct visualization of the structural dynamics in monocrystalline 2D perovskites by monitoring the evolution of wavevector-resolved ultrafast electron diffraction intensity. The results show a light-induced ultrafast reduction in antiferro-distortion due to the strong interaction between the electron-hole plasma and perovskite lattice. Correlated ultrafast spectroscopy reveals that the relaxation of lattice distortion is triggered by the creation of a dense electron-hole plasma. The interaction between carrier gas and lattice can be altered by choosing an appropriate organic spacer layer.

Controlled growth of perovskite layers with volatile alkylammonium chlorides

Jaewang Park et al.

Summary: Controlling the crystallinity and surface morphology of perovskite layers is crucial for achieving high-efficiency perovskite solar cells. By adding alkylammonium chlorides (RACl) to a-formamidinium lead iodide (FAPbI(3)), the crystallization process and surface morphology of the perovskite thin films can be controlled. The resulting perovskite thin layers facilitate the fabrication of perovskite solar cells with a high power-conversion efficiency of 26.08%.

Amidino-based Dion-Jacobson 2D perovskite for efficient and stable 2D/3D heterostructure perovskite solar cells

Tinghuan Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, a 2D/3D heterostructure was formed in perovskite solar cells using amidino-based Dion-Jacobson 2D perovskite, which resulted in high efficiency and stability. Time-resolved optical diagnostics revealed that the 2D perovskite assisted the nucleation and growth of 3D perovskite during film formation, reducing defects and voids for efficient charge transport. The planar perovskite solar cells with 2D/3D heterostructures achieved efficiencies of 24.9% and 22.3% on rigid and flexible substrates, respectively, which are the highest among all 2D/3D composite solar cells. The stability of the cells was also improved, with 97% of the original efficiency retained after 1,000 hours of storage for rigid cells and 92% for flexible cells after 3,000 bending cycles.

Light-activated interlayer contraction in two-dimensional perovskites for high-efficiency solar cells

Wenbin Li et al.

Summary: Continuous light illumination causes over 1% contraction in the out-of-plane direction in two-dimensional hybrid perovskites, which is reversible and strongly dependent on specific superlattice packing. Positive charge accumulation enhances the bonding character of inter-slab I-I interactions and activates out-of-plane contraction.

Deterministic fabrication of 3D/2D perovskite bilayer stacks for durable and efficient solar cells

Siraj Sidhik et al.

Summary: Realizing solution-processed heterostructures in halide perovskites is a long-standing challenge due to solvent incompatibilities. However, by utilizing the solvent dielectric constant and Gutmann donor number, it is possible to grow phase-pure two-dimensional (2D) halide perovskite stacks with desired composition, thickness, and bandgap onto 3D perovskites without dissolving the underlying substrate. The thickness dependence of the 2D perovskite layer shows expected trends for different device architectures, indicating the influence of band alignment and carrier transport limits.
