Application of Deep Learning on the Prognosis of Cutaneous Melanoma Based on Full Scan Pathology Images

Anhai Li et al.

Summary: This study aims to use deep learning and machine learning to learn and classify patients with cutaneous melanoma with different prognoses, and explore the application value of deep learning in predicting the prognosis of cutaneous melanoma patients. By comparing the results, it was found that the average accuracy of deep learning is higher than that of machine learning, even the lowest accuracy of deep learning is better than that of machine learning.

A deep learning model based on whole slide images to predict disease-free survival in cutaneous melanoma patients

Maria Colomba Comes et al.

Summary: This study developed a deep learning-based model to learn prognostic biomarkers from whole-slide histological images and predict 1-year disease-free survival in melanoma patients. The extracted quantitative imaging biomarkers showed promising prognostic power and were validated on an independent test set.

Histopathologic classification and prognostic factors of melanoma: a 2021 update

Mattheos Bobos

Summary: Despite recent advancements in molecular analysis of tumors, histopathology remains the gold standard for melanoma diagnosis, complemented by clinical characteristics and immunohistochemistry. The new WHO Classification of Melanoma divides melanomas based on histologic, clinical, epidemiologic, and genetic characteristics, distinguishing between sun-exposed and non-sun-exposed melanomas. Further categorization is based on cumulative solar damage and mutational signatures, providing a comprehensive framework for understanding melanoma progression and evolution.
