Animal Protein Sources as a Substitute for Fishmeal in Aquaculture Diets: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Rendani Luthada-Raswiswi et al.

Summary: Due to the increased prices of fishmeal, researchers are seeking alternatives and have found that the use of insects, terrestrial by-products, and fishery by-products has some limitations, but replacing fishmeal with animal protein sources has a positive impact on the growth parameters of different species and sizes of fish.

Nutritive value of guar and copra meal after fermentation with yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae in the diet of Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus

Namitha Dileep et al.

Summary: The use of a mixture of yeast-fermented guar and copra meal to replace fish meal in the diet of Nile tilapia resulted in improved growth performance and nutrient utilization. A 25% replacement level showed the best results in terms of weight gain and feed conversion ratio for the tilapia. Beyond this level, the digestive enzyme activity and nutrient digestibility decreased, while antioxidant enzymes and blood parameters were negatively affected. The study suggests that up to 17.45% of fish meal can be replaced with the FGCM mixture for optimal weight gain in tilapia.
