Amphora coffeaeformis diatom involved in reducing the susceptibility of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) fingerlings to Aeromonas hydrophila infection by boosting immune and antioxidant responses and improving growth performance indicators

Hala F. Ayoub et al.

Summary: In this study, the application of Amphora coffeaeformis diatom in the diet of Nile tilapia was found to improve growth performance, enhance immune and antioxidant responses, and control Aeromonas hydrophila infection. The 2% and 3% concentrations of A. coffeaeformis showed the most significant effects. Immunological and antioxidant improvements were maintained even after the challenge with A. hydrophila. The histopathological examination also demonstrated the protective effects of A. coffeaeformis against A. hydrophila infection in various organs of Nile tilapia.

Acetylferulic paeonol ester: A new feed additive reduces lipid accumulation in the liver of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) by modulating lipid and glucose metabolism

Lijuan Yu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of different levels of acetylferulic paeonol ester (APE) on the growth performance, body composition, serum biochemical indicators, and lipid and glucose metabolism of Nile tilapia. The results showed that APE supplementation improved weight gain and decreased liver lipid content. It also affected serum biochemical parameters related to lipid and glucose metabolism. Transcriptome analysis revealed changes in gene expression related to fatty acid oxidation and degradation. APE influenced the hepatic glucose and lipid metabolism of tilapia at both enzymatic and mRNA levels.

Comparison of the growth performance and long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC-PUFA) biosynthetic ability of red tilapia (Oreochromis mossambicus♀ x O. niloticus♂) fed fish oil or vegetable oil diet at different salinities

Jun Yu et al.

Summary: Regardless of the diet, red tilapia reared at 30 ppt showed faster growth and lower feed conversion ratio. Some LC-PUFA were significantly affected by salinity, with higher levels observed in fish reared at 30 ppt. Furthermore, fish reared at 30 ppt showed higher expression levels of genes related to LC-PUFA biosynthesis compared to those reared at 0 ppt.

Dietary arginine requirement in diets of GIFT strain of Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus: Effects on growth performance, whole-body composition, growth-related gene expression and haemato-biochemical responses

Elangovan Prabu et al.

Summary: This study found that moderate supplementation of arginine can improve growth performance and feed utilization in juvenile GIFT tilapia, without affecting whole-body composition and amino acid profile. Blood biochemical responses and specific gene expressions were influenced by different levels of arginine, with 16.7-16.8 g/kg of arginine estimated to be the optimal level for maximum growth and feed utilization in juvenile GIFT tilapia.

Cultivation and biomass production of the diatom Thalassiosira weissflogii as a live feed for white-leg shrimp in hatcheries and commercial farms in Vietnam

Luu Thi Tam et al.

Summary: The study showed that Thalassiosira weissflogii has the potential to be used as live feed for white-leg shrimp farming in Vietnam, leading to improved growth and survival rates of the shrimp. Adding T. weissflogii to the diet of white-leg shrimp larvae significantly increased their body length, weight, and survival percentage.

Efficiency of different microalgae as monospecific and bispecific diets in larval rearing of Penaeus indicus with special reference to growth, nutrient composition and antimicrobial activity of microalgae

Kizhakkekarammal Puthiyedathu Sandeep et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the efficiency of different microalgae in the larval rearing of Indian white shrimp, Penaeus indicus. Results showed that a combination of Thalassiosira weissflogii and Tetraselmis sp. had the best survival, growth, and conversion rate, with T. weissflogii demonstrating superior growth potential and nutrient profiles compared to other microalgae. T. weissflogii also exhibited better antimicrobial properties.
