Are the stabilities of stablecoins connected?

Binh Nguyen Thanh et al.

Summary: This study examines the interconnectedness of stablecoin stability, focusing on Tether (USDT), USD Coin (USDC), Paxos Standard (PAX), TrueUSD (TUSD), and DAI from November 23, 2019, to April 1, 2021. The findings reveal that market price fluctuations vary among stablecoins, with instabilities in USDT and USDC significantly influencing other stablecoins but insufficient evidence for the reverse impact. Additionally, increases or decreases in USDT market prices have a significant depressive or elevating effect on the market prices of other stablecoins. Surprisingly, the algorithmic stablecoin DAI is found to be less stable than its USD-backed counterparts.
