Functionalization of mesoporous MCM-41 for the delivery of curcumin as an anti-inflammatory therapy

Nidhal A. Atiyah et al.

Summary: Mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) composed of MCM-41 were successfully synthesized and modified with amine groups to form NH2/MCM-41, which was loaded with curcumin (CUR) to create efficient carriers in drug delivery systems (DDSs). The study characterized the samples and investigated the effect of carrier dose, CUR concentration, pH, and contact time on drug loading efficiency (DLE%). NH2/MCM-41 showed higher DLE% and better drug release properties, indicating potential applications.

Multifunctional nanofibrous membrane fabrication by a sacrifice template strategy for efficient emulsion oily wastewater separation and water purification

Wenjing Ma et al.

Summary: A porous hybrid membrane (ZIF-8 @PAN) was designed by water etching of sacrificial polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and in-situ growth of ZIF-8 nanoparticles onto the fiber, which exhibited high separation efficiency and flux for oil/water emulsion and water purification. The presence of ZIF-8 nanoparticles improved the membrane's underwater superoleophobicity and emulsion demulsification efficiency. The membrane also demonstrated antibacterial activity, chemical stability, and effective separation of complex wastewater.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.
