iTRAQ-based quantitative proteomics analysis of defense responses triggered by the pathogen Rhizoctonia solani infection in rice

Feng Zhi-ming et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigated the host proteins responsive to the soil-borne necrotrophic fungus Rhizoctonia solani using an iTRAQ-based quantitative proteomic approach. Our results showed that these proteins play important roles in cell redox homeostasis, carbohydrate metabolism, phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, and host defense against R. solani. Interestingly, R. solani may inhibit the host photosynthetic system and phenylpropanoid biosynthesis to facilitate infection and colonization.

Comparative Proteomic Analysis of Rhizoctonia solani Isolates Identifies the Differentially Expressed Proteins with Roles in Virulence

Seenichamy Rathinam Prabhukarthikeyan et al.

Summary: The proteomic analysis of high virulent and less virulent isolates of Rhizoctonia solani revealed differentially expressed proteins related to fungal development, sporulation, pathogenicity, and other functions. The study also confirmed a positive correlation between the abundances of proteins and transcripts. This research provides insights into the pathogenicity mechanism of R. solani in causing sheath blight disease in rice.

Identification of rice (Oryza sativa L.) genes involved in sheath blight resistance via a genome-wide association study

Aijun Wang et al.

Summary: Genetic resistance to rice sheath blight involves multiple minor genes, with underlying dominant resistance genes yet to be identified. Through a genome-wide association study, genes correlated with sheath blight resistance were discovered, with two resistance proteins validated. Additionally, a new regulation model for resistance was revealed, showing how the antioxidation system improves resistance.

Summary: The study evaluated a set of 192 indica rice accessions in two seasons to assess the genetic variability, broad-sense heritability, and genetic advance for yield and sheath blight related traits. The results showed variations in genotypic and phenotypic coefficients of variation across different seasons. Different traits exhibited varying heritability and genetic advance, with implications for breeding improved rice genotypes.
