Interfacial and rheological properties of long-lived foams stabilized by rice proteins complexed to transition metal ions in the presence of alkyl polyglycoside

Xiaoyang Yu et al.

Summary: Transition-metal coordination complexes have the potential to be used in advanced structural materials due to their ability to regenerate after rupture. The integration of these complexes in foam materials has been rarely reported. In this study, hydrolyzed rice proteins (HRP) were used to create long-lived foams with high yield stress, and the presence of transition metal ions resulted in a mechanically strong film.

Effects of Fe (II) on stability of aqueous foam prepared by hydrolyzed rice protein in the presence of oil

Xiaoyang Yu et al.

Summary: The stability of aqueous foam stabilized by hydrolyzed rice protein (HRP) can be remarkably enhanced after adding FeSO4, forming HRP-Fe2+ complexes at the air-liquid interface. The improved foam stability is attributed to the adsorption of HRP-Fe2+ complexes, which prevents bubble coalescence and rupture, rather than reducing surface tension. This formulation can be a potential non-fluoro replacement with better foam stability than silicone and glucoside surfactants.

Youjie Sheng et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigated the molecular interactions, rheological properties, and foam properties of mixed dispersions of silica nanoparticles, nonionic hydrocarbon surfactant, and fluorocarbon surfactant in water. The results showed that the nanoparticles strongly influenced the rheological and foam properties of the mixed solutions. Additionally, with an increase in nanoparticle concentration, the foam stability was enhanced while the foaming properties weakened.

Highly stable fluorine-free foam by synergistically combining hydrolyzed rice protein and ferrous sulfate

Xiaoyang Yu et al.

Summary: Fluorine-free liquid foams with long-term stability can be produced by synergistically combining hydrolyzed rice protein (HRP) and FeSO4 as stabilizers. The highly stable foam is formed by the adsorption of HRP/Fe2+ complexes on bubble surfaces, creating solid-like networks that prevent coarsening and coalescence. The presence of complexes slows down drainage dynamics in the foam films and Plateau borders, resulting in ultrastability. Additionally, the HRP/Fe2+-stabilized foam exhibits better burnback performance compared to fluorinated foam.

Study on Thermal Stability of Gel Foam Co-Stabilized by Hydrophilic Silica Nanoparticles and Surfactants

Youjie Sheng et al.

Summary: The study explores the influence of silica nanoparticles on the thermal stability of gel foams based on a mixture of fluorocarbon and hydrocarbon surfactants. Results indicate that NP concentration significantly affects the molecular interactions, surface tension, conductivity, and viscosity of the dispersions. Addition of NPs reduces the foaming ability of the solution and slows down coarsening, drainage, and decay of the gel foams under thermal action, ultimately enhancing their thermal stability.
