Comprehensive thermodynamic and economic analyses and optimization of a novel poly-generation setup utilizing solar and geothermal sources

Yan Cao et al.

Summary: This work studies the energy, exergy, and economic aspects of a poly-generation setup based on two renewable energy sources. The system converts thermal energy into useful energies and energy-based products, utilizing geothermal energy and solar power. Other subsystems generate electricity, provide cooling, produce freshwater, and generate hydrogen. The study evaluates the system's performance using weather data from Beijing, China, and applies thermodynamic and economic analyses, as well as optimization calculations. The results show an exergy efficiency of 19.2% and a levelized cost of products of 13.9 $/GJ, with a payback period of 3.96 years.

Rheological behavior of engine oil based hybrid nanofluid containing MWCNTs and ZnO nanopowders: Experimental analysis, developing a novel correlation, and neural network modeling

Mojtaba Sepehrnia et al.

Summary: In this study, the rheological behavior and dynamic viscosity of a hybrid nanofluid based on 5 W30 engine oil with ZnO-MWCNT nanoparticles were experimentally evaluated. The results showed that the nanofluid exhibited non-Newtonian behavior and pseudoplastic behavior. The viscosity of the nanofluid increased with an increase in the volume fraction of nanoparticles, and decreased with an increase in temperature. A three-variable correlation and neural network modeling were developed to predict the viscosity, with the neural network modeling showing better accuracy.

Multi-objective optimizations and exergoeconomic analyses of a high-efficient bi-evaporator multigeneration system with freshwater unit

Yan Cao et al.

Summary: This study proposes a multi-generation system that utilizes geothermal and solar energies to produce power, cooling, and freshwater simultaneously. Through parameter evaluations and optimization research, it is found that increasing the temperature can enhance cooling capacity and energy efficiency, but it reduces hydrogen and net electricity production. The exergy-cost optimization and energy-cost optimization yield optimal results for exergy efficiency and overall unit cost, as well as energy efficiency and cooling capacity respectively.

Rahul Kumar et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the effects of absorber surface roughness on the performance of a triangular solar air heater. By comparing smooth and rough absorber surfaces with V ribs, the study shows that rough surfaces lead to higher thermal and exergy efficiency. Experimental and numerical analysis also reveal that the roughness significantly impacts friction factor and heat transfer characteristics.
