Investigation of energy losses of the internal combustion engine taking into account the correlation of the hydrophobic and hydrophilic

Piotr Wroblewski

Summary: This paper presents the results of measurements of motor torque for 18 multilayer AlN/CrN and CrN/AlN coatings. It shows that highly hydrophilic coatings can reduce the loss of mechanical energy in the lower engine speed range and in the oil environment with a high soot content, while highly hydrophobic coatings enable the reduction of torque and resistance to movement in higher speed ranges. The influence of these properties is more significant than the surface texture, hardness, Young's modulus, and other parameters of the coatings.

Physicochemical characterisation of graphene-ammonium lactate ionic liquid nanofluid

Pablo Manuel Martinez-Rubio et al.

Summary: A new series of nanofluids based on graphene dispersed in 2-hydroxyethylammonium lactate (ML) ionic liquid was developed. The concentration of graphene and temperature showed significant effects on the viscoelastic behavior and conductivity of the nanofluids. The viscosity unexpectedly decreased with a low concentration of graphene, while shear thinning effects appeared with higher concentrations. The complex Burgers model was used to describe the creep-recovery behavior of the nanofluid with 1 wt% of graphene.

Tribological properties of 1-octyl-3-methylimidazolium lactate ionic liquid as a lubricant additive

Shangshang Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated the tribological properties of IL L-L108 as an additive to SAE 10W-40 and PEG400 for steel-steel contacts. The results showed that the lubricating performance was improved when L-L108 was used as an additive, with XPS analysis indicating a tribochemical reaction between the mixture and metal substrate. This reaction formed a chemical reaction film on the steel surface, contributing to the excellent tribological performance observed.

Lubrication by Adsorption Films of Hydrophilic Amine-based Protic Ionic Liquids: Effect of Anion Species

Kotaro Kaneko et al.

Summary: This study synthesized hydrophilic amine-based protic ionic liquids and evaluated their lubrication performance in aqueous solutions, with ditriethanolamine malate showing the lowest kinetic friction coefficient and stable lubrication capability over sliding cycles. Characterization of PILs adsorption on an iron oxide surface using quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring and force curve data provided insights for their potential applications as water-soluble lubricants and additives in metal surface treatments.
