Effect of thermal elastohydrodynamic lubrication on vibration characteristics of ball bearing with local defect

Yubo Wang et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the influence of thermal effect on the elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) performance and vibration characteristics of defective ball bearings. A dynamic model with a localised defect on the outer raceway is developed, considering point contact thermal EHL and time-varying displacement excitation. The results show that thermal EHL results in larger pressure and thinner film thickness in the ball-raceway contact interface compared to isothermal EHL. Additionally, the rotating speed and radial load significantly affect the thermal EHL performance. The study highlights the ability of lubricants to improve the vibration characteristics of defective bearings, while the addition of thermal effect of EHL increases vibration amplitude and deteriorates lubricating performance.

Experimental study on adaptability of full ceramic ball bearings under extreme conditions of cryogenics and heavy loads

Zhongxian Xia et al.

Summary: This study provides valuable reference for the application of full ceramic ball bearings under extreme conditions. The results indicate that Si3N4 rings and balls have good adaptability to extreme conditions, but the cage is prone to failure and damage.
