Elimination of organochlorine pesticides from water by a new activated carbon prepared from Phoenix dactylifera date stones

Rayane Sahmarani et al.

Summary: The study focused on characterizing activated carbon produced from date stones through pyrolysis-chemical activation with phosphoric acid, and its effectiveness in removing organochlorine pesticides from water samples. The results showed that Ajwa stones activated coal had the best adsorption properties due to its high specific surface area (> 1200 m(2)/g). Optimal conditions for adsorption of pesticides were found to be at a pH of 2 and with a contact time of 60 minutes, using 0.4 grams of AC.
