A Longitudinal Study of Mental Wellbeing in Students in Aotearoa New Zealand Who Transitioned Into PhD Study

Taylor Winter et al.

Summary: Current studies on graduate student mental health commonly use cross-sectional designs, limiting causal conclusions on the relationship between entering graduate study and mental health. The impact of an undergraduate students' culture on their learning about mental health: A scoping review

Alison Hansen et al.

Summary: Undergraduate health students may hold discriminatory, stigmatizing, and inaccurate beliefs and attitudes towards those with mental disorders, with limited research on how culture influences these beliefs. There is variance between students' cultural beliefs in their attitudes and knowledge of mental disorders, highlighting the need for educators to consider appropriate learning activities to acknowledge the role of culture in their learning about mental health. Research on the impact of undergraduate students' culture on their learning about mental health will provide an evidence base for the development of these activities.

Work-Related Mental Health Issues in Graduate Student Population

Jose Ignacio Gallea et al.

Summary: The study reveals that a significant number of graduate students are experiencing work-related mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, and high burnout, with the amount of time spent in academia playing an important role. Graduate students exhibit a specific profile of work-related mental health issues, including alterations in the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis and lower levels of work engagement. Additionally, graduate students are equally stressed as general workers, but with less work engagement and more symptoms of anxiety and depression.
