Geology of the Zagros basaltic bodies: examples from the Avroman Mountains, Kurdistan Region, Northeast Iraq

Summary: The volcanic bodies on Avroman Mountain are identified as altered volcaniclastic sediments originating from the Urumieh-Dokhtar Magmatic Arc, rather than dykes or ophiolite rocks. These sedimentary bodies have close tectonic, depositional, and chronological relationships with volcaniclastic successions in neighboring areas.
