Prevalence and identification of tick species on large ruminants from district Rajanpur in Punjab Pakistan

Muhammad Moeen Adil et al.

Summary: Ticks play a significant role in transmitting tick-borne diseases to both animals and humans, especially in regions like Pakistan with favorable subtropical conditions. The study in Rajanpur District identified a total of 16 tick species from bovines, with Hyalomma ticks being the most prevalent (85%), followed by Rhipicephalus (10%) and Ixodes (4%). The prevalence of tick infestation varied between sampling sites and was significantly higher in cattle (70%) compared to buffaloes (30%), with the udder being the most preferred site for tick infestation.

Hyalomma spp. ticks and associated Anaplasma spp. and Ehrlichia spp. on the Iran-Pakistan border

Nayyereh Choubdar et al.

Summary: The study revealed six species of Hyalomma ticks in the Iran-Pakistan border region, with Hyalomma anatolicum being the most prevalent. A high percentage (68.3%) of engorged ticks were found to carry DNA of Anaplasma spp. and/or Ehrlichia spp., with sequencing confirming the presence of pathogenic Anaplasmataceae in the ticks parasitizing cattle, goats, and camels along the border.

Molecular detection and prevalence of Theileria ovis and Anaplasma marginale in sheep blood samples collected from Layyah district in Punjab, Pakistan

Kainat Abid et al.

Summary: The study reported molecular evidence of Theileria ovis and Anaplasma marginale in sheep blood samples collected from Layyah district in Punjab, Pakistan, with a higher prevalence of Theileria ovis than Anaplasma marginale. Tick-infested dogs were identified as potential risk factors for the transmission of both pathogens in sheep.

Phenology and phylogeny of Hyalomma spp. ticks infesting one-humped camels (Camelus dromedarius) in the Tunisian Saharan bioclimatic zone

Khawla Elati et al.

Summary: A survey of Hyalomma ticks infesting one-humped camels in southern Tunisia revealed that the infestation prevalence varied significantly by region and sex of the camels. The preferred attachment sites for adult ticks were the sternum and around the anus. The study also identified a natural hybrid between H. dromedarii and H. rufipes.
