Extraction and Synthesis of Silicon Nanoparticles (SiNPs) from Sugarcane Bagasse Ash: A Mini-Review

Ntalane Sello Seroka et al.

Summary: This study reviews the utilization of traditional extraction methods and latest findings in extracting silica from agricultural wastes, particularly sugarcane bagasse, using inorganic acids. The study discusses the electrochemical, ball milling, and sol-gel processes in detail. Sugarcane bagasse is identified as the cheapest source for producing silica, and it is also a sustainable source for both tailored silica particles and bioenergy production. The ability to manipulate nano-engineered silica particles from sugarcane bagasse-based silica is explained in detail. The study highlights the importance of extracting silica efficiently from agricultural waste like sugarcane bagasse for industrial applications.

Investigation of Bamboo Leaves as an Alternative Source of Silica: Extraction, Characterization and Its Application as an Adsorbent for Methylene Blue Sequestration

Uttara R. Joshi et al.

Summary: This study examined the extraction of silica from natural waste such as bamboo leaves through thermal combustion, acid treatment, and alkaline extraction. The extracted silica was characterized and found to be highly porous and interconnected, with high purity and amorphous nature. The functionalization of extracted silica with alginate was investigated, and parameters such as pH and equilibrium time were optimized for the removal of methylene blue from aqueous solutions. The results indicated that the extracted silica had a high adsorption capacity and the adsorption process was dominated by monolayer adsorption.

Tensile Test Analysis of Tire Tread Rubber's Tendency to Resist Cracks

Ingyu Noh et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the tread portion of a tire, investigating its crack characteristics and mechanical properties under different seasons. The mechanical properties of three types of tread crack specimens were measured, and the crack fracture parameters were derived using the digital image correlation method. The results indicate that the maximum elastic strains of the tread specimens in summer, all-weather, and winter vary under low and high-speed conditions.

A comparison of the effects of traditional and wet mixing processes of rubber on metal friction and wear

Deshang Han et al.

Summary: Prolonged operation of mixers can wear down the rotors and chamber walls, affecting the mixing effect and dispersion of packing in rubber products. Silanization reaction between silica and silane coupling agent occurs during mixing, with faster reaction rates at 145-155 degrees C. Wet mixing results in higher silica dispersion and more significant wear on the mixing chamber due to increased water vapor production.

Influence of Silica Specific Surface Area on the Viscoelastic and Fatigue Behaviors of Silica-Filled SBR Composites

Hiron Raja Padmanathan et al.

Summary: The study focused on investigating the relationship between the silica specific surface area (SSA) and the viscoelastic and fatigue behaviors of silica-filled styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) composites. Lower silica SSA was found to increase fatigue life while decreasing hysteresis loss and storage modulus. Crack mechanisms primarily involved filler-matrix debonding and filler fracture. The volume fraction of cracks and volume strain increased with higher silica SSA.
