How Do Renewable Energy, Economic Growth and Natural Resources Rent Affect Environmental Sustainability in a Globalized Economy? Evidence From Colombia Based on the Gradual Shift Causality Approach

Abraham Ayobamiji Awosusi et al.

Summary: This research investigates the association between energy consumption, economic growth, and CO2 emissions in Colombia. The findings indicate that economic growth leads to increased emissions, while globalization and renewable energy contribute positively to environmental quality. The study emphasizes the need for coordinated measures to reduce environmental deterioration and promote renewable energy development in Colombia.

Natural resources and financial development: Role of business regulations in testing the resource-curse hypothesis in ASEAN countries

Chang Tang et al.

Summary: This paper examines the financial resource curse hypothesis by studying the relationship between financial development and natural resources rent. The empirical results validate the hypothesis and suggest that business regulations can mitigate the negative impact of natural resources on financial development. This has important policy implications for sustainable development in ASEAN countries.

Resource curse versus resource blessing: New evidence from resource capital data

Chandan Sharma et al.

Summary: This study investigates the association between natural capital and economic development by analyzing panel data from various countries. The findings suggest that natural capital has a significant and positive effect on economic performance. Additionally, institutional quality indicators are also important drivers of economic growth. The study challenges the resource curse hypothesis and supports the resource blessing hypothesis. The results hold true for both developing and developed economies. This research contributes important policy implications and expands the empirical literature on the relationship between resource abundance and economic growth by incorporating wealth and capital data.

Natural resources volatility, political risk and economic performance: Evidence from quantile-on-quantile regression

Shi Tang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the relationship between natural resources volatility (TNR), CO2 emissions, and political risk index (PRI) with economic performance in China. The findings show that TNR, PRI, and CO2 emissions are positively but weakly associated with economic performance, with varying degrees at different quantiles. TNR significantly affects economic performance in the medium and long run, PRI affects economic performance in the long run, and CO2 emissions affect economic performance in the short-term, medium-term, and long-term. The study recommends implementing measures to reduce natural resources volatility, strengthen the political and financial sectors, improve institutional quality, and efficiently use fossil fuels to promote economic performance while reducing environmental risks.

Investigating the asymmetric effects of renewable energy-carbon neutrality nexus: Can technological innovation, trade openness, and transport services deliver the target for Germany?

Ridwan Lanre Ibrahim et al.

Summary: This study empirically analyzes the impact of renewable energy, technological innovations, trade openness, and transport services on carbon emissions in Germany. The findings show that only renewable energy and technology have substantial effects in mitigating carbon emissions, while trade openness has a positive impact on carbon emissions. Transport services significantly contribute to carbon emissions in both the long-run and short-run periods, but there are some mitigating effects due to the transition to green transportation in the long-run.

Renewable energy consumption in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA): Implications on economic and environmental sustainability

Joshua Sunday Riti et al.

Summary: This paper examines the relationship between renewable energy, economic growth, greenhouse gas emissions, and gross fixed capital formation in sub-Saharan African countries. The analysis shows that renewable energy and gross fixed capital formation have positive impacts on long-term economic growth, while renewable energy has a negative impact on greenhouse gas emissions. This suggests that renewable energy is a reliable path for achieving both economic and environmental sustainability.

The effect of renewable and non-renewable energy consumption on economic growth: Non-parametric evidence

Kris Ivanovski et al.

Summary: The study utilizes non-parametric modeling technique to examine the time-varying impact of renewable and non-renewable energy consumption on economic growth from 1990 to 2015. The results indicate that non-renewable energy consumption has a significant positive effect on economic growth in OECD countries, while the impact of renewable energy is statistically insignificant in most parts of the study period. In non-OECD countries, both renewable and non-renewable energy consumption promote economic growth, suggesting the potential role of developing countries in the transition to renewables.

Natural resource rents and economic growth in the top resource-abundant countries: A PMG estimation

Ousama Ben-Salha et al.

Summary: The paper examines the relationship between natural resource rents and economic growth, finding support for the natural resource bless hypothesis in the long run, but not in the short run. Economic growth has a positive impact on resource rents, and a feedback causal relationship exists between the two variables. Additionally, there is heterogeneity of results across countries in the short run.
