Lower-thermosphere-ionosphere (LTI) quantities: current status of measuring techniques and models

Minna Palmroth et al.

Summary: The lower-thermosphere-ionosphere (LTI) system is a complex system consisting of the upper atmosphere and the lower part of the ionosphere, coupled to both the atmosphere below and space above. The atmospheric part is influenced by continuum fluid dynamics and chemistry, while the ionosphere is controlled by electromagnetic forces from the magnetosphere, solar wind, and wind dynamo. Systematic in situ measurements within this region are lacking, but crucial for understanding this domain controlled by different physical processes.
