Predictors of Good Clinical Outcome after Thrombectomy for Distal Medium Vessel Occlusions

Franny Hulscher et al.

Summary: Older age, longer puncture to recanalization time, and higher baseline core volume are associated with poorer clinical outcomes after mechanical thrombectomy for DMVO, while successful recanalization is associated with better outcomes.

Thrombectomy for distal medium vessel occlusion with a new generation of Stentretriever (Tigertriever 13)

Adrien Guenego et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the safety and efficacy of the Tigertriever13 stent retriever in acute ischemic stroke patients with distal, medium vessel occlusions. Results showed that mechanical thrombectomy using Tigertriever13 was safe and effective for DMVO, with favorable clinical and anatomical outcomes similar to those with proximal occlusions.

Aspiration Versus Stent Retriever Thrombectomy for Distal, Medium Vessel Occlusion Stroke in the Posterior Circulation: A Subanalysis of the TOPMOST Study

Lukas Meyer et al.

Summary: This study evaluates angiographic and clinical outcomes of thrombectomy strategies in DMVO stroke of the posterior circulation. The results showed that both first-pass aspiration and stent retriever thrombectomy for primary isolated posterior circulation DMVO seem to be safe and technically feasible.

Effectiveness of very low profile thrombectomy device in primary distal medium vessel occlusion, as rescue therapy after incomplete proximal recanalization or following iatrogenic thromboembolic events

Reza Rikhtegar et al.

Summary: This study reports the short-term clinical outcomes of using the smallest low profile thrombectomy device currently known to treat distal medium vessel occlusion. The results show a high rate of successful recanalization, but with a moderate rate of symptomatic hemorrhagic complications and a higher hospital mortality rate in elderly patients. Further trials are needed to confirm these results and assess long-term clinical outcomes.

Importance of Occlusion Site for Thrombectomy Technique in Stroke Comparison Between Aspiration and Stent Retriever

Marie Louise E. Bernsen et al.

Summary: Thrombectomy with stent retriever and direct aspiration are equally effective in treating anterior circulation acute ischemic stroke, with direct aspiration achieving higher reperfusion rates and shorter procedure times. There were no significant differences in functional outcomes, periprocedural complications, or mortality between the two treatment techniques.

Subarachnoid Hemorrhage in Mechanical Thrombectomy for Acute Ischemic Stroke: Analysis of the STRATIS Registry, Systematic Review, and Meta-Analysis

Hubert Lee et al.

Summary: The prevalence of post-thrombectomy SAH is approximately 5.23%, with a higher correlation to distal vessel occlusion and multiple device passes. SAH patients exhibit more severe neurological symptoms at discharge and a significantly reduced proportion achieving functional independence at 90 days.
