Community Health Workers as a Strategy to Tackle Psychosocial Suffering Due to Physical Distancing: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Dorien Vanden Bossche et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effectiveness of a community health worker (CHW) intervention in providing tailored psychosocial support to patients with limited social networks during the COVID-19 pandemic. While the intervention did not have a significant impact on pre-specified psychosocial health measures, it did lead to significant improvement in self-rated change in psychosocial health. Further research is warranted to explore the implementation of CHWs in primary healthcare to reach vulnerable populations during and after health crises.
