Digital Volumetric Monitoring of Palate Growth in Children With Cleft Lip and Palate

Eloa Cristina Passucci Ambrosio et al.

Summary: This study longitudinally evaluated the volume of dental arches in children with unilateral cleft lip and palate before and after rehabilitative plastic surgeries. It found that there was an increase in dental arch volume after cheiloplasty but a decrease after palatoplasty. Further research is needed to confirm the preliminary findings.

Oral and maxillofacial outcomes in children with microcephaly associated with the congenital Zika syndrome

Renato Araujo Ribeiro et al.

Summary: This study assessed the oral and maxillofacial characteristics of microcephalic children associated with congenital Zika syndrome (CZS) and compared them with non-CZS children. Results showed that narrow palate form, tongue anterior projection, oral escape, and late first tooth eruption were significantly more present in the microcephaly/CZS group, with differences also found in craniofacial measures.

Prospective cohort 3D study of dental arches in children with bilateral orofacial cleft: Assessment of volume and superimposition

Eloa Cristina Passucci Ambrosio et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the dental arches of patients with bilateral complete cleft lip and bilateral cleft lip and palate treated in a specialized hospital, showing a reduction in transversal and anteroposterior linear measurements in patients with bilateral cleft lip and palate. However, there was no significant decrease in area and volume, as indicated by the superimposition of dental arches.

Palatal growth changes in newborns with unilateral and bilateral cleft lip and palate from birth until 12 months after early neonatal cheiloplasty using morphometric assessment

Lenka Kozejova Jaklova et al.

Summary: This study compared palatal growth changes in infants with UCLP and BCLP during the first year of life. The results showed intensive palatal growth in both directions, with no restrictions in any direction. The study highlights the formative effect of palatal growth on alveolar cleft closure, emphasizing the importance of geometric morphometry in improving surgical methods.
