Pre-service teachers' perceptions of social media data privacy policies

Summary: Data privacy issues related to social media are becoming increasingly important for educators, as shown by the lack of knowledge among pre-service teachers regarding relevant policies and regulations. While attitudes towards educational social media use were not directly correlated with awareness of data privacy policies, comfort with companies' use of personal and student data and faith in governments' capacity to regulate social media companies were linked. Recommendations for data literacy training in teacher education programs were included in light of these findings.
