Inflammatory and immune-related factor Caspase 1 contributes to the development of oral lichen planus

Xuefang Zeng et al.

Summary: The study identified the upregulation of CASP1 in oral lichen planus (OLP) tissues and its positive correlation with inflammation-related factors, indicating a potential role in the inflammatory response. Silencing CASP1 in HaCaT cells protected against LPS-induced inflammatory injury, and the interaction of CASP1 with RAC2, CYBB, and ARHGDIB may be a potential molecular mechanism underlying OLP. Analysis of immune-related genes suggested a correlation with CASP1 and enrichment in immune system processes.

Exogenous LL-37 but not homogenates of desquamated oral epithelial cells shows activity against Streptococcus mutans

Alexandra Aidoukovitch et al.

Summary: The antimicrobial peptide hCAP18/LL-37 is found in desquamated oral epithelial cells, but its levels are too low to affect the viability of Streptococcus mutans, while exogenous synthetic LL-37 has a strong impact on these bacteria.

Gold nanoparticles conjugated with programmed death-ligand 1 antibodies induce apoptosis of SCC-25 oral squamous cell carcinoma cells via programmed death-ligand 1/signal transducer and transcription 3 pathway

Byul Bo Ra Choi et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that PDL1-GNP treatment effectively suppressed the growth of oral squamous cell carcinoma cells, induced cell apoptosis, and the mechanism of action may be related to the PD-L1 protein and the STAT3 signaling pathway.
