Self-regulated learner profiles in MOOCs: A cluster analysis based on the item response theory

Summary: This study evaluates learners' self-regulated learning in MOOCs using a two-parameter item response theory model and cluster analysis. The findings identify five different clusters of self-regulated learner profiles and suggest that learners with lower forethought skills may be less committed to completing course assignments.

Person-centered analysis of self-regulated learner profiles in MOOCs: a cultural perspective

Summary: This research utilized learning analytics to explore learner profiles in terms of how they engaged in SRL in MOOCs, revealing four different self-regulated learner profiles: all-around SRL learners, disillusioned SRL learners, control-oriented SRL learners, and control-dominated SRL learners. All-around SRL learners outperformed the other clusters in course grades, and cultural differences between those clusters were also identified. Practical implications on designing effective SRL interventions were provided.

Implementing open educational resources in digital education

Summary: The outbreak of COVID-19 has led to an increased demand for online educational resources, and OER has the potential to facilitate the transition to digital education. Concerns about the effectiveness of student learning with OER remain unresolved. Hilton's review shows that OER can reduce textbook spending without compromising student learning, but additional considerations are needed for implementing OER in digital education.
