Morbidity and mortality associated with prescription cannabinoid drug use in COPD

Nicholas T. Vozoris et al.

Summary: This study found that new use of synthetic cannabinoid drugs was associated with elevated rates of adverse outcomes among patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Particularly, individuals receiving higher doses of cannabinoids experienced significantly increased rates of hospitalization for COPD and pneumonia, as well as all-cause mortality. Further research is needed to confirm these findings, but they should be taken into consideration when using cannabinoids in older adults with COPD.
