The role of different information sources in information spread: Evidence from three media channels in China

Summary: Using a comprehensive dataset from 2008 to 2018, this study examines the impact of different information sources (traditional media, new media, and social media) on information spread and price synchronicity in the Chinese stock market. The findings suggest that social media has the most significant influence on information disclosure, and all media coverages have a significantly negative impact on price synchronicity. Additionally, this influence is more pronounced for firms that are not audited by Big 4 auditors or with lower institutional ownership.

The research findings provide empirical support for the hypothesis that the relationship between internal/external factors and environmental information disclosure is mediated by corporate environmental management. The study also identifies certain characteristics of environmental information disclosure. The insights presented in this article are valuable for top managers and regulators interested in enhancing environmental information disclosure.
