Understanding the Impact of Mandatory CSR Disclosure on Green Innovation: Evidence from Chinese Listed Firms

Summary: Drawing on legitimacy theory, this study examines the impact of mandatory CSR reporting policy on firms' environmental responses. Using China's policy as a quasi-natural experiment, the results reveal that mandatory CSR reporting firms show higher green innovation performance. The effect is stronger for firms in areas with high environmental enforcement, state-owned enterprises, and those with higher media coverage. Both negative and positive media coverage strengthens the relationship between mandatory CSR disclosure and green innovation.

Can local environmental constraints improve enterprise's green innovation quality? Evidence from Chinese-listed firms

Summary: The target responsibility system of environmental protection is an important channel to achieve a win-win situation for economic development and environmental protection. Examining how local environmental target constraints drive enterprises to improve their green innovation quality is of significant theoretical and practical importance. This study empirically investigates the impact of different types of local environmental target constraints on the quality of corporate green innovation and finds a nonlinear relationship between them. The findings suggest that indirect environmental target constraints have a positive effect on green innovation quality, but with an inverse U-shaped relationship. Indirect environmental target constraint intensity works better in areas with policies prioritizing city over province, with younger mayors, and for enterprises in technology-intensive industries.

Lessons from failure: Pollution blacklisting and firm's green innovation

Summary: This article investigates the impact of pollution blacklisting on firm green innovation (GI) based on a unique information disclosure project from 782 Chinese listed firms. The research found that pollution blacklisting negatively affects the environmental perception and legitimacy pressure of firms, leading them to adopt long-term solutions like green innovation to regain environmental legitimacy and social support. The positive effect of pollution blacklisting on GI is stronger for firms with high levels of media coverage, while it is weaker for firms with bureaucratic political connections.

Summary: This article aims to establish a value evaluation system for compensating ecological environmental damage caused by air pollution, to more clearly assess the damage and to propose legal compensations for entities causing air pollution. The article utilizes literature research and atmospheric environment data to understand the current research status and compensation system for environmental damage caused by air pollution, and establishes a value evaluation index system based on air pollution monitoring technology and related legal systems. The evaluation model based on fuzzy analytical hierarchy process shows an accuracy of 92.3% in evaluating the compensation value of ecological environmental damage caused by air pollution.

Towards sustainable development: How does technological innovation drive the increase in green total factor productivity?

Summary: This study found that technological innovation has a significant positive impact on green total factor productivity (GTFP), but its interaction with economic development level and foreign direct investment (FDI) has varied effects. Technological innovation promotes GTFP when economic development level is below a certain threshold, whereas there is no significant impact on GTFP when the level exceeds the threshold. Different measures should be taken to guide technological innovation in order to improve GTFP and achieve sustainable development.
