Understanding racism in physical (biological) anthropology

Michael L. Blakey

Summary: The mainstream of American physical anthropology originated as a racist and eugenical science but later shifted towards being more anti-racial. However, it still fails to fully address the social histories of inequitable biological variation and marginalizes the contributions of Blacks. Critical disciplinary history and a shift towards biocultural studies may help in creating an anti-racist human biology.

Operationalizing the CARE and FAIR Principles for Indigenous data futures

Stephanie Russo Carroll et al.

Summary: Advances in big data and open data have limited Indigenous Peoples' rights to control and access their data. By combining the FAIR Principles with the CARE Principles, machine actionability can be enhanced to address Indigenous Peoples' rights and interests in data.
