Does export product diversification spur energy demand in the APEC region? Application of a new neural networks experiment and a Decision Tree model

Cosimo Magazzino et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the causal links among export diversification, per capita income, and energy demand for 20 APEC countries. Using an innovative sequential Artificial Neural Networks experiment, the study finds that export diversification negatively affects energy demand, while per capita GDP significantly influences the same energy target. The findings suggest that export diversification plays a mitigating role in energy demand and has a substantial impact on economic growth, but no causal effect is found among export diversification, human capital, and FDI.

Intensity of environmental regulation and environmentally biased technology in the employment market

Malin Song et al.

Summary: This study extends Acemoglu's biased technological progress theory and measures environmentally biased technological progress using data envelopment analysis to analyze the impact of environmental regulations on labor supply and demand. Progress in environmentally biased technology can promote the supply and demand of regional labor force, but inconsistent development with economic growth may have a negative impact on regional labor demand. Environmental regulation has a significant negative impact on labor demand, but its self-adjusting mechanism reignites labor demand.

Sustainability Assessment Based on Integrating EKC with Decoupling: Empirical Evidence from China

Donghui Lv et al.

Summary: The study found that the carbon emissions of China's entire manufacturing industry and the manufacture of nonmetallic mineral products have passed the inflection point, while the other four main subsectors have not. In China's entire manufacturing industry, there was observed strong decoupling, weak decoupling, and expansive coupling between CO2 emissions and value added, with weak decoupling being the most prominent. The decoupling index showed a downward trend overall.

A D2C algorithm on the natural gas consumption and economic growth: Challenges faced by Germany and Japan

Cosimo Magazzino et al.

Summary: Germany and Japan are using a Machine Learning approach to study the relationship between natural gas consumption and economic growth, finding evidence of bidirectional causality. The research suggests that strengthening gas supply to replace the most polluting fuels is crucial for a feasible transition towards renewable energy.

Nature and climate change effects on economic growth: an LSTM experiment on renewable energy resources

Summary: Global energy demand is increasing over time, especially in emerging market economies, and promoting renewables is a strong policy action in the world's energy-based economies. The study found that an increase in renewables production may sustain economic growth recovery, generating a better performing GDP acceleration compared to other energy variables.

Carbon-abatement policies, investment preferences, and directed technological change: Evidence from China

Kai Li et al.

Summary: The study found that the contributions of energy-saving goals and new energy subsidies policies were relatively stable during the 11th Five-Year Plan (2006-2010), but weaker in the following 12th Five-Year Plan, while the effect of carbon emission trading schemes on innovation was not significant. Only administrative regulation had a reinforcing effect on the propensity to pursue technological investment.
