ICT, renewable energy, financial development, and CO2 emissions in developing countries of East and South Asia

Zakia Batool et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the impact of ICT, renewable energy consumption, and financial development on CO2 emissions in developing countries. The results show that ICT and financial development have a positive long-term effect on environmental degradation, while the impact on CO2 emissions is insignificant in the short term. On the other hand, renewable energy consumption has a positive impact on environmental quality in both the long and short term. The study also validates the inverted U-shaped EKC hypothesis and finds a bi-directional relationship between renewable energy consumption and CO2 emissions.

Industrial structure, energy intensity and environmental efficiency across developed and developing economies: The intermediary role of primary, secondary and tertiary industry

Sulaman Muhammad et al.

Summary: This article examines the nonlinear relationship between industrial structure, energy intensity, and environmental efficiency in developed and developing countries. The results indicate that the environmental efficiency of Belt and Road Initiative countries has declined over the years. Developed countries have higher average environmental efficiency compared to developing countries, and the negative impact of the secondary industry on the environment is more severe in developing countries. Additionally, a nonlinear U-shaped curve is observed between the secondary industry and environmental efficiency in developed countries.

Does environmental policy stringency reduce CO2 emissions? Evidence from high-polluted economies

Qin Yirong

Summary: The study aims to analyze the asymmetric effects of environmental policy stringency on CO2 emissions in top emitter's economies such as China, USA, India, Russia, and Japan. The findings show that increasing or decreasing environmental policy stringency can lead to a reduction in CO2 emissions in the long run, and policymakers should consider both positive and negative changes when formulating environment-related regulations.

Changes in students' knowledge, values, worldview, and willingness to take mitigative climate action after attending a course on holistic climate change education

Sakari Tolppanen et al.

Summary: The study found limited impact of climate change education in higher education, with students showing increased scientific knowledge but no change in knowledge related to mitigative actions. While some participants experienced changes in their worldview, there was minimal change in willingness to take mitigative actions. Additionally, an increase in biospheric values was seen in some students, potentially leading to lower carbon footprints in the future.

Weighing China's embodied CO2 emissions and value added under global value chains: Trends, characteristics, and paths

Qiuping Li et al.

Summary: With the expansion of global value chains, China's role in the global production division system has become increasingly important. However, participating in global value chains also leads to an economic-environmental imbalance for China. This study finds that activities related to value chains require higher carbon emissions costs compared to traditional trade. The electricity, metals, and non-metallic mineral industries bear heavy emissions pressure while obtaining limited value added. China's CO2 trade and value-added trade with developing countries through global value chains are increasing, while trade with developed countries shows a downward trend. The characteristics of China's industrial paths vary considerably under different trade routes.

Analyzing the Asymmetric Effect of Renewable Energy Consumption on Environment in STIRPAT-Kaya-EKC Framework: A NARDL Approach for China

Youxue Jiang et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the asymmetric relation between renewable energy consumption and CO2 emissions in China, using the STIRPAT-Kaya-EKC framework and the non-linear ARDL model. The study finds that there is an asymmetric impact of renewable energy on the environment, with negative shocks having a greater detrimental influence than positive shocks. Population growth affects the environment in the short run, while technology only affects environment quality in the long run. The study also supports the EKC theory in China and emphasizes the importance of government funds in establishing legislation, subsidizing renewable energy infrastructure, and promoting low-carbon projects for a sustainable economy.

Lukasz Kurowski et al.

Summary: This study aims to verify the importance of knowledge about climate change for pro-climate consumer behavior and purchase decisions. The results show that understanding climate change has a positive impact on pro-climate consumer behavior. Therefore, climate education should be an integral element of climate policy.

The influence of technological innovation and human capital on environmental efficiency among different regions in Asia-Pacific

Florence Appiah Twum et al.

Summary: This study utilized a super-efficiency DEA model to calculate environmental efficiency values in various regions in Asia-Pacific from 1990 to 2018, finding that East Asia region is the most efficient while South East Asia is the least efficient. Results showed an inverted U-shape relationship between technological innovation, economic growth, human capital, and environmental efficiency.
