Accelerometer-based estimation of oxygen uptake in adults with Down syndrome: vector magnitude vs. vertical axis

B. K. Ballenger et al.

Summary: The study found that both vector magnitude (VM) and vertical axis (VA) are significant predictors of oxygen uptake rate (V?O-2) in adults with and without Down syndrome (DS), but VM more accurately estimated V?O-2 than VA, which could help improve the prediction of physical activity levels.

Triaxial accelerometer output predicts oxygen uptake in adults with Down syndrome

Anthony T. Allred et al.

Summary: This study investigated the differences in the relationship between oxygen uptake rate (V?O-2) and accelerometer output from hip and wrist-worn accelerometers in adults with and without DS, and assessed the accuracy of using accelerometer output to estimate V?O-2. The results showed that the predictability of V?O-2 from accelerometer output is better for hip-worn accelerometers compared to wrist-worn accelerometers.
