Environmental cost of non-renewable energy and economic progress: Do ICT and financial development mitigate some burden?

Muhammad Ramzan et al.

Summary: This study examines the role of ICT, financial development, trade openness, and fossil fuel energy in the rising level of ecological footprints in Pakistan. The findings show that financial development, ICT, and fossil fuels have significant predictive power for ecological footprint, demonstrating asymmetric predictability over ecological distribution. Furthermore, ICT and financial development found a significant interaction when it pertains to predicting country pollution levels.

An assessment of causes and failure likelihood of cross-country pipelines under uncertainty using bayesian networks

Shamsu Hassan et al.

Summary: To address the increasing incidents of pipeline failures and their consequences, a Bayesian Network model has been developed to highlight contributing failure factors and their interactions in pipeline hazards. The model, applied in a case study of Nigeria's oil pipeline system, aims to reduce the risk of pipeline failure by considering various factors such as human, mechanical, and natural hazards. The model provides dynamic information for pipeline stakeholders to prevent undesired outcomes and manage safety effectively.

Do energy consumption, urbanization, and industrialization play a role in environmental degradation in the case of Saudi Arabia?

Bassem Kahouli et al.

Summary: This study empirically explores the relationship between energy consumption, environmental degradation, trade, industrialization, urbanization, and economic growth in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from 1971 to 2019. The findings indicate that an increase in energy consumption and environmental degradation promotes economic growth, but energy consumption also contributes significantly to environmental deterioration. Additionally, there is a long-term feedback effect among the different variables. In the short term, energy use, trade, and urbanization have a Granger-causal relationship with economic growth, while economic growth, environment, industrialization, and urbanization Granger-cause energy consumption. Saudi policymakers should consider the leading role of trade, urbanization, and industrialization in improving economic growth and harming environmental quality and implement efficient energy policies.

Fossil fuels consumption and carbon dioxide emissions in G7 countries: Empirical evidence from ARDL bounds testing approach

Tailon Martins et al.

Summary: This research explores the intertemporal relationships between coal, oil, and natural gas consumption and carbon dioxide emissions in G7 countries from 1965 to 2018. The study identifies positive causality, indicating that the consumption of fossil fuels leads to an increase in carbon dioxide emissions in both short-term and long-term. The error correction model shows that 47.39% of a shock in carbon dioxide emissions is resolved within one year, with emissions returning to long term equilibrium after 2 years.
