The role of liquefied petroleum gas in decarbonizing India: fresh evidence from wavelet-partial wavelet coherence approach

Soumen Rej et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the role of increasing liquefied petroleum gas consumption in India in reducing carbon emissions and achieving environmentally sustainable economic growth. The findings suggest a U-shaped relationship between economic growth and carbon emissions in the long run, and increasing LPG consumption can boost carbon emissions in the short run but reduce them in the long run. Therefore, it is recommended that the Indian government design policies to promote the use of LPG and adopt green economic growth strategies to facilitate environmentally sustainable economic growth.

The impact of renewable energy, internet use and foreign direct investment on carbon dioxide emissions: A method of moments quantile analysis

Ashar Awan et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the relationship among economic growth, environmental degradation, and various factors such as foreign direct investment, urbanization, renewable energy, and information communication technology. The findings reveal an inverted U-shape relationship between economic growth and environmental degradation, supporting the validity of the Environmental Kuznets Curve. Foreign direct investment has a positive impact on economic growth at lower quantiles but becomes insignificant at higher quantiles. Urbanization promotes environmental degradation, while renewable energy mitigates carbon dioxide emissions. Information communication technology, represented by internet usage, significantly reduces environmental degradation.

Md Emran Hossain et al.

Summary: This research examines the relationship between environmental degradation, energy efficiency, economic growth, and manufacturing value-added in India. The findings suggest that implementing moderate energy efficiency measures can improve environmental conditions, but the interaction effect of energy efficiency and manufacturing value-added has a detrimental influence on environmental quality. The study also reveals that India is currently in its scale stage of economy, prioritizing economic growth over environmental protection.

Mexico at the crossroads of natural resource dependence and COP26 pledge: Does technological innovation help?

Md Emran Hossain et al.

Summary: This study examines the relationship between ecological footprint and natural resource depletion, economic growth, energy consumption, technological innovation, and foreign direct investment in the Mexican economy using the dynamic autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) simulations approach. Results show a long-term association between the economy and environmental quality, with Mexico still in the scale stage, allowing for economic expansion relative to environmental quality. Natural resource rent, energy use, and foreign direct investment have a negative impact on environmental quality in the short and long term, while technological innovation seems to be a solution for environmental degradation in the long run.

Testing the N-shaped environmental Kuznets Curve in Algeria: An imperious role of natural resources and economic globalization

Khurram Shehzad et al.

Summary: Natural resources play a crucial role in the economy of Algeria, particularly in terms of natural gas. The study reveals that income generated from natural resources significantly improves environmental quality in Algeria. However, economic globalization is positively associated with environmental degradation. Imposing tariffs on the import of environmentally harmful goods and services is of great importance. The study also finds an N-shaped relationship between economic growth and ecological footprints, with a bidirectional causality effect observed between economic growth and environmental degradation.

Summary: This study investigates the relationship between natural resource abundance, economic development, human capital, urbanization and ecological footprint in Pakistan from 1980 to 2018. The results show that an increase in natural resources has a negative impact on ecological footprint, while economic development and human capital have a positive impact. Additionally, urbanization has a significant negative impact on ecological footprint. The study suggests the need for policies to manage rapid urbanization and minimize its challenges on cities, environment, and economy.
