The Needs-to-Goals Gap: How informant discrepancies in youth mental health assessments impact service delivery

Andres De Los Reyes et al.

Summary: Over 60 years of research has shown that informants who observe youth clients often have different views on their mental health service needs. The last 10 years of research have revealed that these discrepancies are due to the fact that youth clients' needs can vary across different contexts and informants have varying levels of expertise in observing youth clients. Collecting and interpreting data from multiple informants is considered the best practice in research and clinical care.
