Understanding, explaining, and utilizing medical artificial intelligence

Romain Cadario et al.

Summary: The study reveals that people resist using medical artificial intelligence due to subjective difficulty in understanding algorithms and an illusory understanding of human medical decision-making. By increasing subjective understanding of algorithmic decision processes through brief interventions, willingness to utilize algorithmic healthcare providers can be enhanced. The effectiveness of these interventions was also observed in a field setting study on Google Ads for an algorithmic skin cancer detection app.
