Does an Improvement in Rural Infrastructure Contribute to Alleviate Poverty in Pakistan? A Spatial Econometric Analysis

Summary: The role of infrastructure in poverty alleviation is ambiguous, with positive effects of financial and female education infrastructure observed in rural areas of Pakistan. Health and transportation infrastructure have insignificant effects on poverty reduction. Priority steps for poverty alleviation should focus on financial resources allocation, improvement of female education infrastructure, and reformulation of health and transportation policies. Further exploration is needed on the adverse effect of male education infrastructure and spillover effects of water and sanitation infrastructure on poverty reduction.

Summary: China has undergone rapid urbanization in recent decades, leading to increased urban-rural economic disparities. The TMOB area in Henan Province, as traditional agricultural zone, is comprised of four concentrated poverty areas. A study was conducted to analyze constraints on rural development and develop strategies for poverty-stricken rural areas. Key constraints include labor loss, weak urban driving force, inadequate infrastructure, and a single industrial structure.

The spatial spillover effect and nonlinear relationship analysis between land resource misallocation and environmental pollution: Evidence from China

Summary: Compared with other countries, China's local governments often adopt the land supply strategy of low price and sufficient supply for industrial land and high price and limited supply for commercial land in the allocation of land resources. This misallocation of land resources significantly aggravates environmental pollution through its impact on industrial structure and technological progress. Furthermore, there is a noticeable positive spatial spillover effect in adjacent regions.

Monitoring the spatial spillover effects of urbanization on water, built-up land and ecological footprints in sub-Saharan Africa

Summary: This study explores the threats urbanization poses on biodiversity in Africa, finding heterogeneous effects of urbanization on footprint indicators, emphasizing that the consideration of a single footprint item may underestimate the impact of urbanization on biodiversity loss. Urbanization contributes to the expansion of human-induced pressures on water and built-up landscape, with evidence showing that being surrounded by highly urbanized countries increases the per capita water and built-up land footprints.

Measurement of urban-rural integration level and its spatial differentiation in China in the new century

Summary: Urban-rural integration (URI) is a global trend in urban-rural development that aims to create a harmonious and sustainable human society. China has faced challenges in achieving URI due to uncoordinated urban-rural interactions, but understanding regional differences in URI characteristics can help formulate targeted strategies. By developing a conceptual framework and a URI index, this study found that China's overall URI level remained low, with a U-shaped evolution pattern and significant spatial disparities. Three types of URIs were identified, each with specific strengths and weaknesses that need to be addressed for national URI development. This research provides a scientific reference for rural revitalization and regional coordinated development strategies.
