Identifying Health-Related Quality of Life Domains After Upper Extremity Transplantation

David S. Tulsky et al.

Summary: This study aimed to identify the most important HRQOL domains and patient-reported outcomes after upper extremity transplantation. The results identified 28 key HRQOL domains, including physical functioning, medical complications, emotional functioning, and social participation. These findings will guide the measurement of post-UET HRQOL outcomes.

What we still don't know about vascularized composite allotransplantation (VCA) outcomes and quality of life measurements

Fay Bound Alberti et al.

Summary: This article provides an overview of the current state in the field of vascularized composite allotransplants (VCA) and the lack of understanding in the actual life-enhancing impact of VCA. It focuses on face and hand transplants and highlights the insufficiency of current quality-of-life measurement practices in VCA, as well as the lack of patient-reported outcomes and family experiences. The article proposes new ways of analyzing quality of life and emphasizes the need to involve patients and their families more centrally in VCA practice and research.
