A brief report on dysregulation of positive emotions and impulsivity: Their roles in gambling disorder

G. Rogier et al.

Summary: Emotion dysregulation plays a significant role in gambling disorder, not only involving negative emotional states but also positive emotions. The Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale-Positive has been used to measure dysregulation of positive emotions, and the study found that disordered gamblers scored higher on impulsivity and non-acceptance of emotions, which correlated with the severity of their disorder. Multiple regression analysis showed that positive urgency was a significant predictor of the severity of gambling disorder.

The impact of COVID-19 on gambling and gambling disorder: emerging data

David C. Hodgins et al.

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a reduction in gambling frequency and expenditure overall, but an increase in problematic gambling among certain groups. The most consistent correlates of increased gambling during the lockdown were increased problem gambling severity, younger age groups, and male gender. The long-term implications of these changes are still unclear and need to be further assessed in subsequent studies. In the short term, individuals with existing gambling problems should be recognized as a vulnerable group.
