Influence of Periwinkle Shell Ash on the Strength Properties of Cement-Stabilized Lateritic Soil

Roland Kufre Etim et al.

Summary: This study investigates the use of Portland limestone cement (PLC) and periwinkle shell ash (PSA) to improve the geotechnical properties of lateritic soil. The results show that the treated soil has increased strength and can be used for highway construction.

Improving mechanical properties and shrinkage cracking characteristics of soft clay in deep soil mixing

Thanakorn Chompoorat et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the post-treatment mechanical properties and shrinkage cracking characteristics of soft Bangkok clays treated with ordinary Portland cement and fly ash. The study found that strength and stiffness improvements of stabilised soft clays increased with OPC content but decreased with FA content, while sample shrinkage decreased with increasing FA content. These results suggest that a 15% replacement of OPC with FA can be applied to obtain optimal mixture ratios for deep soil mixing purposes.

Mechanical and microstructural properties of dredged sediments treated with cement and fly ash for use as road materials

Pitthaya Jamsawang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the mechanical and microstructural properties of dredged sediments treated with ordinary Portland cement (OPC) and fly ash (FA). The results showed that adding FA can improve the mechanical properties of sediments, with the optimal combination being 5% OPC and 10% FA. Microscale analyses were conducted to understand the relationship between sediments and OPC and FA contents.

Swell-shrink behaviour of cement with fly ash-stabilised lakebed sediment

Thanakorn Chompoorat et al.

Summary: The research demonstrated that adding fly ash (FA) to cement-stabilised dredged sediments can improve their mechanical properties and resistance to swelling and shrinkage. Test results of the material mixtures showed that adding an appropriate amount of FA can increase the strength and durability of the stabilized sediments.

Repurposing of stabilised dredged lakebed sediment in road base construction

Thanakorn Chompoorat et al.

Summary: The research demonstrated that an appropriate content of fly ash can produce the highest material strengths and stiffnesses in stabilized sediments, regardless of the OPC content or curing time. A suitable replacement ratio of cement with fly ash was found to be 15%. The study provided an empirical correlation between the strength and stiffness of adding fly ash on cement-stabilized lakebed sediment for geotechnical and pavement works.

Recent advances in the stabilization of expansive soils using waste materials: A review

J. B. Niyomukiza et al.

Summary: The increasing population requires infrastructural development, which relies on soils for construction. Expansive soils, subjected to volumetric changes, pose a major challenge for geotechnical engineers. Utilizing waste materials to enhance soil properties could be a sustainable solution for future development.
