An Analysis of Numerically Induced Pulses in Simulations of Low-Salinity Waterflooding and Their Reduction by Flow Upscaling

Hasan Al-Ibadi et al.

Summary: This paper investigates numerical errors in simulating low-salinity waterflooding (LSWF) and proposes two methods to avoid these errors. The first method relies on a mathematical relationship between fractional flow, effective-salinity range, and Peclet number, treating the effective-salinity range as a pseudo-function. The second method introduces an unconventional proxy method equivalent to pseudo-relative permeabilities, eliminating the need for relative permeability interpolation during simulation. By utilizing these methods, engineers can more efficiently and accurately assess the potential for improving oil recovery using LSWF and optimize field development.

Increasing inhibition performance of simultaneous precipitation of calcium and strontium sulfate scales using a new inhibitor ? Laboratory and field application

Azizollah Khormali et al.

Summary: The simultaneous precipitation of calcium sulfate and strontium sulfate was found to be directly proportional to temperature and inversely proportional to pressure, with the worst scenario observed at a 1:1 mixing ratio. A new mixture of reagents, DPAAI, was developed to enhance the prevention of calcium and strontium sulfate salt precipitation. DPAAI demonstrated a 94% efficiency under static conditions and showed improved performance in preventing scale formation compared to common scale inhibitors.
