Photoswitchable Covalent Adaptive Networks Based on Thiol-Ene Elastomers

Kezi Cheng et al.

Summary: Covalent adaptive networks combine the advantages of cross-linked elastomers and dynamic bonding in a single system. A simple one-pot method to prepare thiol-ene elastomers that exhibit reversible photoinduced switching from an elastomeric gel to fluid state is demonstrated. This behavior can be generalized to different composition and chemistries and allows for self-healing, remolding, and reversible adhesion.

Highly stretchable covalent adaptive networks enabled by dynamic boronic diester linkages with nitrogen→boron coordination

Zhenyu Lyu et al.

Summary: Covalent adaptive networks (CANs) are topologically rearrangeable and versatile, with high stretchability and self-healing ability. The collaboration of dynamic boronic diester linkages with nitrogen -> boron coordination enables the development of catalyst-free, highly stretchable CANs. CANs exhibit simple thermorheology with topological rearrangements activated by the reshuffling of dynamic linkages.

Self-Healable Acrylic-Based Covalently Adaptable Networks

Siyang Wang et al.

Summary: The combination of autonomous self-healing and reprocessing in a single material has significant application potential. A copolymer network capable of self-healing at room temperature and reprocessing at high temperature was developed. Reprocessing is achieved through dynamic exchange reactions of cross-links, while self-healing is facilitated by the reversible isomerization of C=C bonds and the recovery of inter-chain van der Waals interactions in the network.

Self-Healable Fluorinated Copolymers Governed by Dipolar Interactions

Siyang Wang et al.

Summary: This study presents a novel approach to achieve self-healable properties in thermoplastic copolymers through utilizing dipolar interactions. By controlling the intramolecular dipolar forces, the mechanical integrity and sustainability of materials can be enhanced. This method not only enables self-healing of materials, but also provides new opportunities for designing self-healable commodity thermoplastics.
