Bimetallic platinum/iridium modified mesoporous catalysts applied in the hydrogenation of HMF

Brenda Ledesma et al.

Summary: The study investigated the catalytic transformation of HMF to produce 2,5-DMF over bimetallic (PtIr) and monometallic (Pt) catalysts supported on CMK-3 and SBA-15 mesoporous materials. It was found that PtIr-CMK-3 catalyst exhibited excellent activity, selectivity, and stability in this process, with well-reduced and highly dispersed metallic particles on the surface of supports having large surface area and narrow pore size distribution. The PtIr alloy species catalytic sites were very active and selective towards the formation of 2,5-DMF.

Precise fabrication of single-atom alloy co-catalyst with optimal charge state for enhanced photocatalysis

Yating Pan et al.

Summary: Metal-organic framework (MOF) stabilized bimetallic Pd@Pt nanoparticles with adjustable Pt coordination environment and controlled structure from core-shell to single-atom alloy (SAA) have been fabricated. It was found that Pt surface charge regulation can be achieved by changing its coordination environment and the structure of the Pd@Pt co-catalyst, redistributing the charge between Pd and Pt. The optimized Pd-10@Pt-1/MOF composite, featuring an unprecedented SAA co-catalyst, exhibits exceptionally high photocatalytic hydrogen production activity surpassing its corresponding counterparts.

Energy-resolved plasmonic chemistry in individual nanoreactors

Eitan Oksenberg et al.

Summary: By monitoring the interfacial environment of a thousand single nanocavities with slightly varied resonance energies, an effective absorption spectrum of metal-bound molecules and a rich plasmon-driven chemistry landscape was constructed. The unavoidable energy losses associated with metals can carry valuable information on energy transfer to the adsorbed molecules. Using methylene blue as a model system, shifts in the absorption spectrum of molecules following surface adsorption were measured, revealing a rich plasmon-driven reactivity landscape with distinct reaction pathways occurring in separate resonance energy windows.

Mengyao Ouyang et al.

Summary: The atomic scale structure of active sites in heterogeneous catalysts is crucial for their reactivity and selectivity. Understanding active site stability and evolution under different reaction conditions is essential for efficient catalyst design. In this study, theoretical calculations predict that carbon monoxide can stabilize different active site geometries in bimetallic alloys, and experimental evidence shows that a PdAu bimetallic catalyst can transition between single-atom and cluster phases with varying selectivities for ethanol dehydrogenation.
