Self-sieving DNA over superhydrophobic surfaces: A Raman spectroscopy study

Monica Marini et al.

Summary: The Raman spectra of DNA fibers suspended over a superhydrophobic surface were studied. A mechanical sieving effect was observed during the suspension process, separating small molecules from the bundles and concentrating them in specific areas. This self-sieving effect provides a step forward for biomaterial studies.

Atomic force microscopy-A tool for structural and translational DNA research

Kavit H. S. Main et al.

Summary: Atomic force microscopy (AFM) is a powerful imaging technique that allows for structural characterization of single biomolecules with nanoscale resolution in their native states. Innovations and optimizations in AFM imaging have advanced our understanding of DNA structure, mechanics, and interactions, providing insights into biological interactions and DNA-protein interactions. AFM also plays a broader role in translational cancer research by imaging DNA with chemotherapeutic ligands for clinical applications.

DNA mechanics and its biological impact

Aakash Basu et al.

Summary: The mechanical deformations of DNA are involved in nucleoprotein interactions and DNA manipulation events. Progresses in single-molecule, structural, and computational methods have characterized the mechanical properties of DNA, and sequencing technology has allowed measuring how these properties vary with sequence and epigenetic modifications. These technological advancements have contributed to the emerging idea that variations in the mechanical properties of DNA play a fundamental role in regulating diverse processes involved in chromatin organization at a genome-wide level.
